CREATING A BIKE GANG
Yesterday we were taking a much deserved studio break outside of Greenhouse WHEN SUDDENLY we found a bike that had been abandoned in the middle of the street! Everyone knows people are more menacing and respected when they travel in packs, so we decided to create a BIKE GANG!

WHAT SHOULD WE CALL OUR BIKE GANG?

YA KNOW WHEN YOU'RE SAD?

You know when something happens in your life to make you so sad, you can’t focus on other things?….The way you’re feeling can’t possibly be expressed to anyone else because they just don’t “get it”……You want to complete everyday tasks but would rather just cry??
![]()
You start mumbling specific “CATCH PHRASES” to express your discontent.
You take opportunities given by close friends to “OPEN UP”
You turn to other creative minds to express better ways of how you’re feeling.
Yeah…..

THE CRAZY WEEKEND!
WOW.
Sometime during the hailstorm of the last few days, my camera went missing. I was unable to capture quite a few moments that were a defining example of why this summer has been so exciting and memorable. I know what they say….”if you don’t have photos, it didn’t really happen”.
Well, then I guess we haven’t been recording AMAZING TRACKS at Greenhouse in a room next to AKON (lol). I guess I didn’t take a boat ride through a hazy orange/purple lightning filled sky to watch fireworks. I guess I didn’t play a dope party on the 8th floor of Mr. Chin’s studio while blasting energy into the darkness of the downtown Vancouver skyline. I guess I didn’t rock out at V-Fest with Metric. I guess I didn’t see Bruno (actually I wish I skipped out on that…)
BLAH BLAH BLAH….it saddens me that I didn’t (and still don’t) have my camera. However, I am indeed greatful for such an exciting last couple of days and therefore will relish the memories for decades to come.
Time to invest in a new one?

Too much gaming… S.T.A.L.K.E.R
Alright… normally I wouldn’t be looking for an excuse to spend more time parked in front of a computer, but amidst all the audio/video editing I’ve been doing lately, I developed the desire to do something ‘fun’ – gaming! I generally avoid this urge (I get addicted way to fast), but my PC got the best of me ….how you ask? Well, I installed a 2 year old game called STALKER – Shadow of Chernobyl that I had laying around annndddd big surprise … I couldn’t stop playing it til I’d beat it every possible way (thankfully it’s now out of my system… time to catch up on sleep!)…

Obviously, STALKER isn’t the most amazing 1st person shooter out there (tons of bugs to report, stagnant AI, etc), but I still dug the missions and I’m big-time into the story… For those who don’t know what I’m talking about, the game is based in the area (Zone) around Chernobyl (most famous for the 1986 nuclear power plant disaster)… The game is modeled on the actual area and is super creepy … radiated and abandoned apartments, schools, vehicles, zombies, mutated animals, and every man for themselves… Anyways, here’s a few images from the game as well as the real town for comparison… *sigh* I’m over it, back to real work now …. -AD

Oh! By the way, for anyone that’s interested in Chernobyl in general, I found an amazing blog post about it with photos – this dude traveled through there recently and snapped some eerry shots. Check it at http://www.stuckincustoms.com/2007/02/02/nuclear-winter-in-chernobyl/
SUBSTITUTIONS FOR HAPPINESS?
Why don’t they mention these in self help books as temporary fixes for boredom and depression?
SUGAR

Sugar is an amazing thing. Some people use sugar on a regular basis to make their days better. For example, I woke up today and didn’t feel the best…then, I drank a large slurpee and ate 5 cent candies while sitting in the studio. The combination worked swimmingly, and before I knew it I was back on my feet jumping around and relishing my joyful existence. Some people rely on sugar to get them through the day. I am not one of those people, but I wouldn’t completely out-rule future possibilities.

Downside/Negative Effects: Severe crashing. Could give you a headache. Rots your teeth. Turns you into a fatty.
Question to yourself: What is your favorite sugary snack?
COFFEE

Coffee is an amazing thing. Some people use coffee on a regular basis to make their days better. For example, I woke up today and didn’t feel the best…then, I drank a large coffee and ate cinnamon toast while sitting in the studio. The combination worked swimmingly, and before I knew it I was back on my feet jumping around and relishing my joyful existence. Some people rely on coffee to get them through the day. I am not one of those people, but I wouldn’t completely out-rule future possibilities.
Downside/Negative Effects: Can make you stay up for extended periods. Bad Breath. Stains your teeth. Can cause caffiene dependency.
Question to yourself: What is your favorite coffee infused beverage?
MARIJUANA

Marijuana is an amazing thing. Some people use marijuana on a regular basis to make their days better. For example, I woke up today and didn’t feel the best…then, I smoked a large joint and ate peanut butter out of the jar while sitting in the studio. The combination worked swimmingly, and before I knew it I was back on my feet jumping around and relishing my joyful existence. Some people rely on marijuana to get them through the day. I am not one of those people, but I wouldn’t completely out-rule future possibilities.
Downside/Negative Effects: Bad for your lungs. Can make you complacent/lazy. Can cause retardation.
Question to yourself: When was the last time you got stoned? (if it’s been in the last 24 hours, disregard this suggestion)
SEX
Sex is an amazing thing. Some people use sex on a regular basis to make their days better. For example, I woke up today and didn’t feel the best…then, I participated in carnal fornication with body whip cream while sitting in the studio. The combination worked swimmingly, and before I knew it I was back on my feet jumping around and relishing my joyful existence. Some people rely on sex to get them through the day. I am not one of those people, but I wouldn’t completely out-rule future possibilities.

Downside/Negative Effects: Unwanted children. STD’s. Emotional attachment. Messy bed sheets. Forced Marriage.
Question to yourself: What’s your favorite sexual position?
I hope this helps.

CAN'T HELP BUT GET DOWN: WILLIAM DEVAUGHN
HAS A SONG EVER MADE YOU FEEL GANGSTA?
Think about that for a second. Cuz, in most cases the rapper you’re listening too is trying REALLY HARD.
WELL, this track could be the MOST gangsta song EVER written.
WHO? WHAT? HOW?
Listen to this:
Spinning records can leave you memorized….
About two years ago, I bailed out of Edmonton just before the summer and escaped into my Grandmas back bedroom at her residence in Vancouver. She made me get a job, so I did part time shifts at Rogers Video (lol) up the street. I spent every other spare second sitting in my room on my KORG Triton writing, making beats and practicing keys. I was in preparation to take on the world!

Naturally, I would take breaks in the backyard while laying under the hot Vancouver sun listening to 70′s funk (my fave) on my ipod. It was the ultimate inspiration at the time for the beats I was creating.
William Devaughn was it for me – I had this on repeat. It was the dopest vibe I could find at that moment, and the lyrics echoed.
Story goes….Mr. Devaughn recorded tha track for like $900 in the summer of 1973. It blew up and hit the number 1 spot on the charts selling over 2 million singles (not that I knew this at the time.)
I just dug how GANGSTA it made me feel.
Even the lyrics had the words:
“sunroof down, diggin the scene with the gangsta lean….gangsta white walls”
Turns out the dude was a devout Jevoha’s Whitness, and after the song exploded released a full record with strong religious undertones. The people couldn’t get into it, and he kinda faded away.
But this track still lives on:
Dig this reggae remake by Winston Curtis.
Mr. Devaughn even tried to re-capture the magic with his own 1980 remake (minus the dancing girl in the vid).
ICE CUBE sampled it most recently
But I like the way LUDACRIS did it better
We even pumped this track a bit when SEX-ED was chillin’ in L.A. a couple months back.

He maybe stumbled upon it, but the guy wrote a timeless GANGSTA classic, that inspired a generation of pimps and playas.
Well done.
