DOES WATCHING TV MAKE YOU DUMB?
by sexedmusic

I don’t watch TV. I don’t even OWN a TV…ok, ok I take that back! I do own a TV, but it’s one of those tiny ones with a DVD player built into it that isn’t even hooked up to any channels.
I normally only watch television when it happens to be on at a friends place, or in tonight’s case – at WORK.
I briefly pondered to myself as I started my shift…. “maybe I should take advantage”. And advantage I did take! I left it on the whole night, and was both digusted and amused with what I witnessed. Sometimes both at the same time…..Like taking a trip back with an old friend….basic cable.
I started out with THE NEWS. Apparently Australia got hit already with Swine Flu (H1N1) worse than anyone. SUCKS ASS MATE!

The good news is the Aussies now have a head start on the vaccine, which will hopefully be used here in Canada as kids return to school next week to spread the virus and to infect us all!

HURRY ! GET ON THAT SHIT!

The news ended and I flipped to SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE (CANADA)
This was good to have in the background! It allowed me to tune in, but not really have to think about what I was watching. Plus, my GF is a dancer and this allows me to feel like I’m “connecting” with her on existential meta-emotional level (?) ….Plus, I can kind of form an opinion who’s good based on rhythm and synchronization, and then wait for the judges to validate it at the end of the performance. I guess it’s kind of interactive.
Then some show came on call “Brooke Knows Best”.
It should be called BROOKE KNOWS NOTHING. – - I mean, seriously…. I guess I’m being a bit of a judgmental asshole based on only watching the show for like, 3 minutes, but HOW DID SHE GET A SHOW???
Oh wait:
Feeling like I was in the mood for something a bit more serious, I switched over to A&E.
It was time for a little INTERVENTION.
My BFF Jonny and I watched this show a couple times, but it always gave me the worst ANXIETY! Seriously, I feel super bad for the people that appear on it, and can’t help but think we all have the ability to fall into the pits of addiction.
Here is an excerpt of my fave episode.
The episode earlier this evening was not as riveting, but dealt with some chick who was addicted to Crystal Meth. At the end she got better….YAYA.
Finally, I ended my night with the latest A&E sensation. Hoarders.
It’s about people who can’t clean up, and like to live in garbage! I really felt that most of the people on the show just needed a BIG HUG. But how can you hug someone when they look like this?
In conclusion, I am somewhat saddened that other peoples addictions, problems and issues have become entertainment for us all to enjoy (on A&E) however…I’m somewhat relieved that I don’t have any similar issues. Kind of like when you drive down Hastings street for fun here in Vancouver.
Regardless I haven’t spent a whole evening in front of a television since I was a kid.
And no, I don’t really have a desire to do it again….
