LAURYN HILL IS CRAZY (IN A GOOD WAY)

Dunno why, but I’ve been listening to Lauryn Hill recently>>> just got reminded how dope she was…..I remember being a kid and listening to The Fugees – The Score for the first time. I hadn’t really listened to a ton of hip hop up until that point….I almost didn’t get it. Blame it on my rural white upbringing. It took me a couple years before I really got down.
Yeah, her voice is amazing – but she’s such a dope MC! Lyrically, she elegantly slayed her rhymes, often spitting double first verses on her tracks. That’s some dangerous shit in pop music. I can’t think of anyone right now with a track on the charts who does it.
But my favorite song:
It’s the prettiest,sexiest, flyest, most bangin’ beat this minute for me.
Plus, she seemed pretty well spoken.
Why is she defending her words? White people DO suck at dancing.

It’s truly an amazing opportunity to take advantage of all the wonderful things life has to offer….It doesn’t matter if your hair is falling out, you’re severely addicted to something illegal, you have a weird growth on your testicle, or your pregnant.
Be thankful for another unique and fantastic chance to make a difference!
So what if you’re not in the most ideal place all the time? Things will ALWAYS get better before they get worse again…..Your attitude determines your gratitude ! (already trademarked).
Ultimately, your positivity will transport you into the next chapter.
Think of all the people you meet and maintain relationships with. All the duties you perform on a daily basis. It’s like an incredible interactive story on display. All your choices and performance determining the eventual outcome of your saga in real time.

This was when Pharrell was going through his “kinda out of time” phase where all his beats were sloppy sounding. (via Robin Thicke’s Wanna Love You Girl). This came out when I was going through a breakup, and I totally related to the message, plus I love the vibe this track captures. It’s so fresh!
IMO, Kenna is a super under-rated artist, but I prefer his first record more.
I felt like the label really slept on him. I worked in radio when his first record dropped, and the reps didn’t even know who he was. He had no single, and I had to special order the album through the label…..regardless, this was a really great song off “New Sacred Cow”.
